Renewable Energy and its associated technologies is an increasingly important business sector as the UK, and Scotland in particular, move towards meeting a number of challenging Government electricity generation targets. Within this nationwide picture New Park is actively looking at a number of different renewable energy solutions for each of our sites across Scotland.
New Park has identified a development portfolio of five medium sized Biomass CHP plants located on existing industrial and business development parks or brown field sites in Scotland, with a total generating capacity of around 47MW of electricity, enough to supply 75,000 homes. The five CHP plants will be fuelled by locally sourced sustainably managed timber. New Park is to develop the plants using proven technology, licensed into the UK, from Switzerland.
The first phase of the development, with a delivery budget of £48M, will be undertaken
at our Forss and Georgemas sites and will, on completion, generate a total of 9MW
of electricity. To deliver this exciting opportunity New Park has established a new
subsidiary company, Stoerhouse Ltd, which is being led on the ground by our Caithness
based Director, Neil Robertson.
The use of Small Wind Turbine Technology is also being
considered for Forss Business and Technology Park, whilst Solar PV is an option being
explored for the Green House (Inverness), Midlothian Innovation Centre and within
the refurbishment of the Energy Technology Centre at East Kilbride.
Underpinning these developments is New Park’s continued role with the Energy Technology Centre consortium, a group supporting the development and commercialisation of novel renewable energy technologies.
