Forss Business and Technology Park

Forss Business and Technology Park is owned, developed and managed by New Park. A combination of high quality refurbished buildings and new build, Forss occupies the nine acre site of the former US Naval Communications base near Thurso in Caithness, Northern Scotland. It is just a few miles from the Dounreay Nuclear Research Establishment. The Park offers buildings for individual or multi occupancy and an incubation unit. The Park’s central hub also includes reception, Board Room, gym, refectory, photocopying and mail handling facilities.

The initial impetus for the development comes form the Dounreay decommissioning project – to which the UK government has allocated some £2.7 billion over the next 30 years. Both key government organisations involved in nuclear decommissioning and its subsequent economic regeneration, UKAEA and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), are based at Forss.

Both the NDA and UKAEA are also committed to the maximisation of local socio-economic benefit from contracts awarded for decommissioning and to the establishment of a real technology legacy post-decommissioning. Forss Business and Technology Park has an integral role to play in these, both from providing high quality office, workshop and R&D space for companies involved in different elements of the decommissioning process to also providing a focus for technology spin-outs whether they are from decommissioning or from other sectors such as renewable energy.
