Midlothian Innovation Centre hosts Scottish Government breakfast briefing

9 Dec 2009

Business recovery was the main course on the menu at a business breakfast meeting held recently at Midlothian Innovation Centre between Midlothian businesses and John Swinney, MSP, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth.

Over a two–hour, two-way discussion, the Minister outlined the range of initiatives which the Scottish Government is taking to combat the economic recession, and then answered questions from local business men and women about a number of business issues – such as planning reform, access to finance and public sector procurement.

Mr. Swinney said; “The scale of the economic challenge facing us all is large – this is the first time since the 1930s that the economies of the major industrialised nations have all declined sharply at the same time. But our goal remains the same – to help create and support sustainable economic development.”

New Park Managing Director, Kevin Scott, added; “The small and medium sized businesses supported within MIC and New Park’s other Centres are fundamental to the health of our economy. By creating supportive business environments and by working together with a range of public and private sector partners the more likely we are to create the conditions in which businesses can survive and prosper through the current economic challenges.”
