Horizon Scotland Design Recognised
Horizon Scotland has won a first prize and a commendation in the Moray round of a competition organised by the Inverness Association of Architects. Horizon Scotland’s architects, Colin Armstrong Associates, took the top award for Place Making (external spaces, relationship with context) for Horizon Scotland’s building design and landscaping in its countryside setting, using Moray sandstone and timber, a pond, pathways and trees and for covering the roof in meadow grass. Horizon Scotland was also runner up in the New Building award category for its innovative design. The building was built to be as sustainable as possible, comprising a single storey timber construction with an open social space supported by timber glulam circular columns and rafters.
Horizon Scotland will now go forward to compete with leaders from other regional rounds in the Highlands and Islands finals in November.
The sponsors of the awards are: Bord na Gaidhlig, the Forestry Commission, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.
